An individual who is kept in police custody after charge would be taken to the next available Magistrates Court for their area. Persons given police bail to attend the Court will be required to attend, usually the week following charge.
At the first Court hearing most people who have been charged by the police for an offence will be entitled to free legal advice at Court.
Some cases can only be dealt with in the Crown Court; these are the very serious crimes such as murder, rape, robbery etc.
Some less serious offences can only be dealt with in the Magistrates Court such as many of the road traffic offences.
Again our team at McMillan Williams can provide all the necessary representation for you.
