Domestic Violence

Violence within a relationship is never acceptable. Orders can be obtained to stop the violence and protect victims. Action can be taken through the Court to get injunctive relief and we aim to have staff immediately available to assist in these matters.

It is possible to go to court within a matter of hours without the perpetrator of the violence being present - this happens in serious, emergency cases. Powers of arrest can be attached to injunctions. If the party against whom an order is made, or who has given promises to the court not be violent, is then violent again, an application can be made for that person to be committed to prison.

The Domestic Violence Unit at South Norwood Police Station are very supportive and helpful in cases of domestic violence, and should always be contacted in emergency situations.
