Kate joined us in February 2008, having trained with a prominent firm in Buckinghamshire. Upon qualification she relocated to South West London and specialised in private work, before joining McMillan Williams, where she has developed a mixed case load and now undertakes both publicly funded and private work.
Kate specialises in and focuses much of her caseload on ancillary relief work for married and unmarried couples both in relation to their own assets and requirements, but also in particular to claims that may be brought on behalf of the children of the family. Kate has experience dealing with both moderate and high net worth cases and has expertise in preparing Opinion documents upon the merits and prospects of success of such claims.
Kate also regularly assists individuals whose family issues become intertwined with Islamic law. Family Shariah law is not always legally binding in this country, for example some clients are surprised to learn that their Nikah ceremony under English Law may not be valid, or that a divorce in this jurisdiction does not always satisfy the cultural and religious requirements for obtaining a Talaq or Khula (Islamic divorce) for her Muslim clients. It is for these reasons that further consideration needs to be given to the marriage contract itself in addition to liaising with the Sharia Council or the individual’s Imam if necessary.
Kate recognises that any kind of family breakdown is a demanding and stressful time for her clients and therefore aims to provide high quality advice in a timely manner that will both assist and ease the difficult transition.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys the outdoors, travelling, eating out and spending time with family and friends.
